Combe ADVENTures 2024
PREGNANT
A meditation with Jonathan Ford
28 November | 8pm
An opportunity to pause and consider how the creator of all things chose to become a single human cell. We will be using music, song, poetry and readings all with a focus on Elizabeth and Mary meeting when they were both pregnant: one so young, the other much later in life.
ON DARING TO HOPE
5 December | 8pm
Mother Lucy Gardner, tutor in Christian Doctrine at St Stephen's House in Oxford, will host an ADVENTure exploring the importance of hope in human lives, and the Christian understanding of hope as a virtue. Themes open for exploration include: What do we really hope and yearn for? What difference does hope make? How should we view the future (our future lives, the fate of this planet and God's creation, life after death)? What should we practise hoping for?
I LOOK FROM AFAR – The musical journey of Advent
Bob Chilcott in conversation with Jonny Manners
12 December | 8pm
Internationally-renowned composer and conductor Bob Chilcott speaks to Jonny Manners about is career in music and the treasure trove of music that has been written for Advent. Bob will be drawing inspiration from his time in the world-famous choir of King’s College, Cambridge, being a tenor in the international supergroup The King’s Singers and the life after as an award-winning composer and conductor. During their conversation we will hear the music that inspires us in the season of preparation for Christmas.
STARS OVER BETHLEHEM
An All Age ADVENTure | 19 December | 4.30-5.30pm
A bright star led the wise men to Bethlehem, and over time stars of all shapes and sizes – with four, five or more points, with or without tails – have become a popular Christmas symbol, leading our eyes and hearts and attention to that special baby in the manger. At our last ADVENTure, we will be making star-shaped decorations, for windows, Christmas trees or as a gift. Different designs for different craft abilities will be available and materials will be provided. Please let us know you are coming by emailing Christine (see address below).
All welcome!
Please stay for some seasonal refreshments afterwards!
The Church Building various matters in progress

We hope to shortly to place a notice board adjacent to the churchyard gates.
Preparatory work is in progress to replace the stone cross to the apex of the chancel roof.
South Wall
We hope shortly to commence on repair of the south wall plaster followed by redecoration of the Nave. The Chancel will be redecorated in entirety.
We have a small group who are looking at the present heating and lighting arrangements, with a view to upgrading.
The Vestry
The repair and redecoration of the Vestry is long overdue. We hope to tackle this shortly, in conjunction with a review of our catering arrangements, to make the best of the increased available space in the Nave.
